It Can End With Me: Why Ancestral Healing Matters Now

More and more people are stepping forward to become what I call the “family delegate”: the one who turns to face these inherited burdens and says, this can end with me. That is what ancestral healing is about.

Many of us carry things that don’t seem to belong to us. A fear with no clear source. A habit of overthinking we can’t switch off. A pattern of addiction, conflict or hardship that runs through the family line like a thread.

In my book, Dakini Weaving – Keys to the Golden Age, I explore why this work is so alive right now. Astrologically, the years leading up to around 2027 offer a real opening for ancestral healing. It is a rare chance to clear karma and afflictions that have kept whole families stuck for generations, and even lifetimes.

What ancestral work can open up

As our understanding of epigenetics grows (the science of how life experience can shape the way genes are expressed and passed down), it is becoming clearer that we inherit more than eye colour. We can also carry the unprocessed pain of those who came before us.

Ancestral work can help us to:

  • Make sense of the unexplained. Some pains or traits don’t match our own life story. Often they turn out to belong to an ancestor, living or passed.
  • Grow in empathy. We start to see our family’s struggles with more understanding and less blame.
  • Clear inherited patterns. Tendencies towards addiction, violence and intergenerational trauma can be softened and released.
  • Meet our wider support. In many traditions, the ancestral field also holds guides who offer wisdom and help.
  • Discover our layers. I call this our “Russian doll” of multidimensionality: the many selves and stories nested within us.
  • Lighten the load for everyone. When whole families suffer less, there is more room for a life oriented towards the sacred.

There are many ways in. These include Sangoma work (South African ancestral practice), shamanism, Internal Family Systems (IFS), hypnotherapy and QHHT, Family Constellations, and Quantum Transfiguration.

When the busy mind isn’t only yours

One of the most surprising things I’ve found in my research concerns what IFS calls “Figuring Out parts.” These are the inner voices that try to help by analysing, planning and solving. They mean well. But they can keep us from ever fully resting in meditation or in deeper, quieter states of awareness.

Usually these parts will step aside when asked. Yet some keep coming back. There is a golden rule here: if something keeps returning, it has not yet been heard.

When I took the time to really listen, I discovered that many of these parts were legacy burdens: patterns passed down from ancestors who lived through war and survival. They had never been allowed to stop being on high alert. I also sense a link to colonial history, where gathering information quickly was a way to stay in control of unfamiliar lands and people.

When these parts are finally witnessed, the release can be deep and primal. People sigh, groan and let go. Some parts ask for peace before they leave. Some even wish to go out into the world as messengers of peace.

The hopeful news is this: ancestral healing can make meditation and mindfulness easier. It clears the way for deeper practice and for connecting with our Buddha Nature.

Healing for more than ourselves

You may have heard the term “zero-pointing.” It’s popular in New Age circles and describes clearing the density of ancestral and past-life karma to return to our core essence. The name likely comes from physics, where zero-point energy is the lowest energy a system can have. Spiritually, we might think of it as stillness, or freedom from karma.

That so many intuitive people feel this pull right now tells me something. Collectively, we sense that the causes and conditions are here to release a great deal.

This is where ancestral healing becomes sacred activism. The biologist Rupert Sheldrake proposed the idea of morphic resonance: that each of us draws on, and adds to, a shared memory of our species. If that is so, the healing one person does can ripple out to many others.

This echoes the Buddhist teaching of Bodhicitta: the awakened heart that dedicates every step of practice to the benefit of all beings. The Gene Keys speak of it too. So when we heal what we carry, and consciously dedicate that healing to the collective, it isn’t only our own family that benefits.

A stepping stone, not the destination

There is an important caution here. Ancestral work is a vital stage, but it is not the endgame.

In certain tantric initiations within my lineage, we are actually asked to mindfully release from the ancestors. This helps us stop identifying with the afflictions of the past, so we can turn towards our innate Buddha Nature and our potential as Shambhala Warriors.

It helps to remember that:

  • There will always be more to clear. Completion matters more than perfection.
  • Fixating on the ancestors can become like over-identifying with victimhood, which keeps old wounds alive.
  • Blaming everything on “the ancestors” can be a way of avoiding our own work.
  • The more time we spend in expanded states, the less we are pushed around by karma.

So do the work, and do it well. Then pledge your allegiance to the mission rather than the trauma. A few questions worth sitting with: Can you dedicate your healing to the collective? Can you see the wider patterns? Could you do this work in a group? And how do these inherited patterns show up as your own afflictions, and what can you do about them?

Imagine how it will feel to set these burdens down. That freedom is a gift that lets you be fully present, and to help pioneer a Golden Age for all beings.

  • Shamanism and psychotherapy: insights from shamanic work, IFS and CRM, and how to build rapport and resolve conflict with the ancestors
  • Karma, time and epigenetics: non-duality, epigenetics, and how to spot ancestral markers in your astrology chart, with remedies
  • Sacred activism: Keys to the Golden Age, including Tantric and Kalachakra perspectives, the Gene Keys, Quantum Transfiguration and the Shambhala Dharma Kings

The course includes guest teachings from Neil Davis and Lila Lieberman. You can add 1:1 mentoring or group tutorials for extra support. Not sure yet? You can start with the first section, and that fee is taken off the full price if you continue.
